Need to do more to attract Chinese tourists – MATTA

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) – There is a need to review the country's tourism fundamentals in order to stay competitive, especially in terms of attracting more visitors from China, according to the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA).

Its president, Datuk Tan Kok Liang, said today he noted that besides Malaysia, over 100 countries were also wooing Chinese tourists who were simply spoilt for choice.

The review, he said, should include matters such as visa policy, the welcome experience at the airport, more outlets with mobile payment facilities such as Alipay and WeChat Pay as well providing better tour experiences.

"Chinese tourists are getting increasingly sophisticated, looking for in-depth local experiences and unique travel activities," he said in a statement.

In this regard, he said: "Malaysia needs to up its game in identifying what markets want and promoting it accordingly."
