KUALA LUMPUR, 20 March 2018: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) is concerned with the report in a national daily on March 19 quoting the comment by a former chairman of its Kedah Chapter regarding a possible candidate for the Langkawi parliamentary seat in GE14.
MATTA President Datuk Tan Kok Liang says “Our constitution does not allow any of our members elected to serve in any position to make political comments in an official capacity. As such, there should be no association between MATTA and a former chapter chairman, more so when his company had ceased to be a MATTA member for several years, and the political statement was just his personal view.”
“We hope the media will not associate MATTA or any of our serving officials with politics. We are a trade association representing thousands of travel and tour companies nationwide. MATTA is a platform for our members to benefit and progress. Driving more business for our members would also bring greater economic benefits to our country”, concluded Tan.
