MATTA Begins Onboarding For Its Technology Platform

Kuala Lumpur, 24 May 2019 – The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) today held its first in a series of onboarding programmes for the MATTA Tourism Industry Distribution and Booking Platform. It was attended by more than 100 industry players, including MATTA members, hoteliers and travel partners in a function held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur.

The objective of the MATTA Tourism Industry Distribution and Booking Platform is to serve as an online marketplace; to streamline inventory and support various tourism-related sub-sectors for the benefit of the tourism industry. The platform also seeks to equip wider segments of the industry with the necessary tools to make smart and prudent business efforts by leveraging on the advancement in technology - as in shifting from bricks to bits.

MATTA President Datuk Tan Kok Liang said, “The onboarding programme marks an important step for the industry, especially to more than 3,600 MATTA members and relevant partners towards buying and selling tourism products and services with the power to market themselves more effectively. There is a need for a hyper-connected business landscape to potentially revolutionise the tourism industry in order to compete in the market.”

“The interactive platform shall deliver an enhanced technological backbone to support Malaysia’s tourism products and services, offering integrated digital support and wider visibility to industry players, in turn helping to increase their sales and revenue potential.”

“The support from industry players is critical to MATTA as we look to expand our influence and reach across industry channels and stakeholders that influence tourists looking to visit Malaysia. The platform is part of the continued endeavour to achieve Malaysia’s strategic goal of welcoming 30 million tourists and RM100 billion in tourist receipts by 2020,” concluded Tan.

MATTA will be conducting a series of roadshows nationwide to welcome industry players onboard the platform commencing the third quarter of 2019 onwards.
