The recent Express Rail Link (ERL) fare increase has made the company less competitive, said the Malaysian Association of Tours and Travel Agents (MATTA).
Its president Datuk Hamzah Rahmat said the ERL company would be at a loss, considering consumers have started feeling the pinch financially.
The revision was approved by the Land Public Transport Commission, the first since ERL started operations 14 years ago.
Beginning January 1, fares would be RM55 for a one-way trip between KL Sentral and KLIA or klia2.
Hamzah said the tourism industry would not be impacted by the hike. Hamzah said it was not the best time to have a fare increase, considering the financial situation consumers are in.
In a statement, ERL justified the fare revision, saying it was necessary to ensure that the fares remain sustainable in the face of rising operating costs.
