Kuala Lumpur, 4 July 2019 - The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) held its inaugural MATTA Awards ceremony to recognise the achievements of its members and their contribution to the Malaysian tourism industry on 30 June 2019 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
Attended by about 500 local and international players and captains of the tourism industry, the MATTA Awards 2019 ceremony was graced with the presence of YB TuanMuhammad Bakhtiar Bin Wan Chik, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia. Also present was YBhg. Datuk Musa Bin Yusof, Director General of Tourism Malaysia.
The inaugural MATTA Awards consisted of nine categories, attracted more than 50 nominations submisision from MATTA members and the winners were selected by an independent Panel of Judges based on a strong operational knowledge on the industry with years of experience in the industry.
MATTA President Datuk Tan Kok Liang said, “The Awards were meant to recognise the achievements of MATTA members and their contributions to the Malaysian tourism industry. It was also meant to encourage more travel and tour operators in the country to be more innovative, especially in the face of disruptive technology.”
“For the past few years, there have been many opinions whether tour and travel operators will go bust, but they have only been going stronger. One factor behind their staying power was being innovative by embracing technology.”
“MATTA is in its 44th year as a national travel Association and will continue to be resilient and embark on a transformation programme to remain competitive. We trust that with such event, it will encourage and inspire members and tourism industry players to continue to be proactive and innovative in enhancing their products and service delivery to the highest level,” concluded Tan.
The MATTA Awards 2019 was supported by sponsors such as Boost, Hong Leong Bank Berhad and Malaysia Airlines Berhad.
