TRUSTED JOURNEYS: TRAVEL SMART & SUSTAINABLE, ONLY AT MATTA FAIR APRIL 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, 4 APRIL 2026 - The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) officially opened the 58th edition of MATTA Fair April 2026 today at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur. The opening ceremony was graced by YB Mr. Raven Kumar Krishnasamy, Johor State Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee Chairman, representing YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Menteri Besar Johor.

As MATTA Fair continues to evolve, this edition reflects the Association’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its position not just in scale, but in relevance and impact. Traversing 40,820 square metres across 10 halls, the Fair records its largest participation to date, with 2,051 booths and 332 participating organisations. This includes 210 tour and travel agencies, alongside National Tourism Organisations, State Tourism Organisations, hotels, theme parks and service providers, signalling continued confidence in the industry’s growth trajectory.

These figures come at a time when travel demand remains resilient, supported by stronger inbound and outbound interest among Malaysians and steady recovery across domestic and international markets. MATTA Fair continues to respond to these shifts by creating a more comprehensive and accessible platform for both industry players and consumers.

MATTA President, Nigel Wong emphasised that the focus remains on strengthening trust and confidence within the travel industry.

“Today, travel is about assurance; it’s about trusting the right providers. At MATTA, we place strong emphasis on building trust between travellers and our licensed members. When visitors engage with MATTA members, they are dealing with accountable and credible professionals who can manage every aspect of their journey from planning and booking to on-ground support. This is where real value lies, and this is what gives travellers peace of mind,” he said.

“From here on, our role is to continue strengthening this industry, ensuring that travellers are supported, protected and able to plan with confidence,” he added.

Looking ahead, MATTA also continues to align its efforts with national tourism priorities, particularly in support of Visit Malaysia 2026. With Malaysia targeting significant growth in international arrivals and tourism receipts, platforms like MATTA Fair play a key role in driving both inbound and outbound travel, while strengthening industry readiness and collaboration.

In his officiating remarks, YB Raven Kumar Krishnasamy highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between industry players and government stakeholders in driving tourism growth.

In addition, Johor’s growing prominence as a key tourism destination further reinforces this momentum. “Since 2025, the Johor State Government has channelled more than RM143.84 million into upgrading tourism infrastructure, public facilities and accessibility across the state. this supports our bigger mission under Visit Johor 2026, where we are working towards our target of 12 million visitors, especially from the domestic market and neighbouring countries like Singapore and Indonesia.

The momentum is already very positive. Based on data from the Johor State Immigration Department, Johor recorded 25 million foreign visitor movements in 2025, with 3.95 million already recorded as of February this year,” he said.

The Fair is supported by MATTA’s partners’ continued commitment to reinforce the importance of connectivity in sustaining travel demand. Partners include the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) as its endorsing body, RHB Bank Berhad as the Official Bank Partner, Malaysia Aviation Group as the Official Airline Partner and Premier Sponsor and Visit Malaysia 2026 as Strategic Partner. Currently, Johor is featured as Malaysia’s Favourite Destination, while Macao takes the spotlight as the International Favourite Destination.

MATTA Fair April 2026 runs from 3 to 5 April 2026, continuing to serve as a key platform for the industry while supporting the broader growth and sustainability of Malaysia’s tourism sector.

At the Fair, visitors can take part in a series of activities and exclusive on-ground promotions throughout the three-day event. The ‘Buyers’ Contest’ returns, offering visitors a chance to win attractive prizes, including a grand prize of flight tickets to Paris with a minimum spend of RM100 on travel packages. The ‘Ride & Reels’ campaign encourages visitors to document their journey to MATTA Fair, while ‘Spin & Win’ activities offer opportunities to walk away with desirable exclusive merchandise.

“Travel has always given people something to look forward to, whether it is visiting somewhere new or returning to a familiar place. Moving forward, through initiatives like MESTI, we are placing more attention to sustainability.

And as we step further into Visit Malaysia 2026, MATTA continues its efforts to support the industry. We will continue to provide a steady and trusted platform for the industry and for consumers to plan their travels with greater confidence,” said Wong.

Through this meaningful step, MATTA has introduced TRUST, an added system designed to help travellers identify legitimate MATTA members more easily. This initiative strengthens consumer confidence by ensuring that members and travellers engage with credible and accountable operators, while raising the standard of professionalism across the industry.

To ensure a smooth visitor experience, MATTA Fair offers free admission and is open from 10 am to 9 pm, Friday to Sunday. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the complimentary shuttle services from KL Sentral and Sunway Putra Mall to MITEC. For those driving, parking is available at the South Entrance basement in MITEC, MITI basement, MATRADE open parking, Kompleks Mahkamah KL open parking, The MET basement, MET 1 basement and MET 9 open parking.
